JBT Marel standalone Chopper/Blender for frozen drum processing

Information

The JBT Marel Chopper/Blender shaves and chops frozen juice, concentrate and purée into a pumpable slurry containing small frozen particles. Its hot-water jacket helps the product flow, preparing it for the next processing step without waiting for the entire drum to thaw.

Process a range of frozen ingredients, including juice concentrates, single-strength and not-from-concentrate (NFC) fruit juices, fruit and vegetable purées, pulp, beverage bases, and broth or bone broth.

The standalone configuration lets you integrate product loading, hot-water supply and discharge with your plant. We can help evaluate your material, required capacity and layout to match the machine to your process.

Specifications

  • Throughput: Up to 24 drums per hour. These capacities are based on frozen product prepared with enough thawing around the edges to release the block from its drum and liner. Actual throughput depends on product characteristics, preparation, feeding and downstream capacity. A greater proportion of thawed product may increase throughput.
  • Tank capacity: 300 US gallons (1,135 litres)
  • Construction: Stainless steel product-contact parts; conical tank bottom
  • Drive: 5 hp, three-phase motor
  • Container size: Up to 55 US gallons (208 litres), subject to loading arrangement
  • Jacket hot water: 190°F (87.7°C), below 15 psi (1.03 bar)

Accessories

Clean-in-place components

An optional hopper lid and spray balls distribute cleaning solution inside the Chopper/Blender.

Water-jacket piping assembly

Optional piping connects the heating jackets on the tank and intake chute.

Instrumentation

Optional level and temperature sensors provide measurements for monitoring the process.

Hot-water set

The steam-heated hot-water set uses the plant’s steam and water supplies to provide hot water to the Chopper/Blender jackets.

Discharge pump

A positive-displacement pump transfers the pumpable slurry from the Chopper/Blender to the next processing step. Pump selection depends on the product and transfer requirements.

FAQ

Does the Chopper/Blender fully thaw frozen product?

The Chopper/Blender produces a pumpable slurry that still contains frozen material. Its hot-water jacket helps the product flow. For processes requiring fully liquid output, JBT Marel can integrate a downstream heat exchanger selected for the product and required capacity.

How much preparation do frozen drums need?

Before loading, the product needs to thaw slightly around the edges so the frozen block can slide out of the drum. Preparation time depends on the product, container and thawing conditions. JBT Marel can help define suitable drum preparation and handling procedures for your process.

Is a pump or CIP system included with the standalone machine?

A discharge pump and clean-in-place (CIP) components are configurable rather than included in the base machine. The most commonly quoted standalone package includes a Chopper/Blender and CIP lid. Your quotation confirms the pump, cleaning components and other equipment supplied, along with the connections your plant needs to provide.

Can it process individually quick frozen fruit?

Individually quick frozen (IQF) fruit requires an application review. System modifications and process adjustments may be needed. Contact us to evaluate your material, required output and capacity.
